Pacific Palisades, Pivot Doors

Doors in closed position, designed to be invisible from the exterior. The three massive doors cover an opening of 7' high by 30' wide.

The open position, you can see the ocean through the living room that had floor to ceiling glass installed on the opposite side of the house which from the street side appears to be only one story but in actuality is three stories.

The doors were clad on the exterior with 5/8" thick Brazilian Mahogany and have a 77'-6" radius and are 10" thick which made the entire task even more daunting, each leaf weighing in at 1600 lbs.

We designed a custom sub-mounted pivot hinge system utilizing McMaster 3000 lbs flange and bearing plates top and bottom. We achieved gaps at 1/4" and water proofed using brush systems.

A view from the inside, we devised a hold back system that was reached through pop open doors on the inside of the doors.

Closed view from the interior.
